Spiritual Counseling provides one with the opportunity,
through recognition and support, to more fully experience his or her spiritual
nature.
In spiritual counseling, the persons involved simply
recognize that there is a Higher Force which assists all in their efforts,
regardless of race, creed or name given to this Higher Force.
This counseling usually lightly touches upon areas
that are normally dealt with in personal psychology (such as relations,
self-image, self-worth, habits and behaviors). The major focus is upon
aspects such as: faith, devotion, wisdom, compassion, spiritual techniques
(eg. prayer and meditation), and spiritual experiences.
This may seem to be a trivial recognition initially,
but by the recognition of a Higher Force, in whatever way the person feels
it appropriate to interpret or understand this, the ego, which is where
so many of our problems come from, is subdued to some degree. Then we
can begin to access more intelligent, more helpful parts of ourselves.
Another very important aspect of spiritual counseling is the way this
Higher Force is encouraged to be sought for inner support at times of
great struggle. This can be done by a reading of the person’s energy,
cards or doing a meditation.
Spiritual counseling also gives us a greater purpose
to improve who we are and our outlook on life. This sense of purpose varies
from person to person. In essence it involves our strivings and efforts
to improve who and what we are being not only for ourselves, but for the
benefit of the greater world around us.
In general, counseling works best through respect.
The person relaying different options is at heart, really not that much
different than the person asking for it! Only, the counselor usually has
had more experience about the topic being discussed. When that topic is
spirituality, the aim is to empower a basically well-adjusted person to
further his or her growth towards recognizing and becoming part of the
larger experience that we call life (or Life, depending on our way of
thinking).
